Set in the glorious English countryside on the South Downs, Big Church
Day Out is a two-day church festival. Famous Christian bands play on
the main stage, thousands of families camp for the weekend, and lots
of family-oriented fun things are happening throughout the site. A
team from Psalm Drummers and Movement in Worship joined together to
worship at various places around the site throughout the weekend.

In the morning, we were in the middle of the busy “street” of the
site, near the food tents. As we drummed and moved together, a large
crowd gathered. People stayed to watch and to film on their phones. In
the afternoon we had the use of the small stage in the photo in the
fete area. In the evening, we taught workshops on using drums, staffs
and fabric, and joined everyone from toddlers to pensioners together
for a time of inclusive, colourful and noisy worship.

One thing I find really inspiring about Movement in Worship is the way
that the team can come together from all over the place, and with just
a few minutes planning, launch into improvised movement profiles that
look like they were rehearsed. This comes from a combination of having
had the same training, being a family together, worshipping together
when we can, and letting God’s Holy Spirit choreograph our moves live
during the event.

Look out for us next year at Big Church Day Out.
